<p>Ballehage Beach is an urban, public beach in the southern parts of Aarhus, Denmark and from 1929 it is one of the oldest sea baths in Denmark. Ballehage Beach is situated in the Marselisborg Forests on the Bay of Aarhus in the suburb of Højbjerg, south of Marselisborg Yacht Harbour and the Aarhus River mouth. Helgenæs lies across the bay to the east, a bit inland to the west is the Marselisborg Deer Park and to the north is the Varna Palace. The beach area is some 1000 meters long and between 10 and 30 meters wide. It is a white sandy beach with occasional rows of boulders extending into the sea, for coastal erosion protection. Ballehage Beach is popular for sunbathing and swimming due to the shielding effect and scenic view of the nearby forest on the steep hillsides to the west. The beach has a single jetty extending some 20 meters into the sea, offering a platform to jump from or relax on. There are outdoor changing facilities, toilets and storage areas. The Beach is open year-round for everyone at no charge.</p><br>
<p>Ballehage Beach does not have a life guard in the summer but there is a safety station with a lifesaver. It&#39;s situated in an area with heavy foot traffic, busy roads and a restaurants. Aarhus Municipality frequently tests the water for bacteria and algae and rates all beaches on a yearly basis. In 2014 and 2015 the beach has received the highest possible 3/3 rating. The water level drops off relatively rapidly and reaches a depth of 2 meters some 20 meters from the short. The winter bathing club Vikingebadeklubben Ballehage is based out of the facilities on BAllehage Beach.</p><br>
<h2>Access</h2><br>
<p>The park lies along Ørneredevej in the Marselisborg Forests which can be reached by buses which run from central Aarhus and the Aarhus Central Station. Bus no. 31 depart from the central bus station and stops at "Ørneredevej v. Ballehage" by Ballehage Beach. The Deer Park lies nearby and there is parking there. Danish National Cycle Route 5 runs along the coast of eastern Jutland from Odder Municipality to central Aarhus, passing through the Marselisborg Forests and by Ballehage Beach, before it continues north to Den Permanente, Bellevue Beach and Åkrogen. It&#39;s possible to walk the 4 km. along the coast from Indre by and Marselisborg Yacht Harbour lies 2 km. north of the beach, providing access by sea for smaller boats and ships that can dock at the jetty.</p><br>
<p>The Mill Village Historic District encompasses a small 19th-century industrial on Stowe Street in Waterbury, Vermont. The area is a compact and somewhat isolated example of a mill village of the mid-19th century; it is roughly bounded by Stowe Street, Graves Brook, and the northbound offramp of Exit 10 from Interstate 89. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Waterburys historic Mill Village area is now a quiet residential area, but it was for much of the 19th century a bustling industrial area. Powered by the waters of Graves (or Thatchers) Brook, a number of mills and small industrial operations thrived into the 20th century, when advances in industrial power and economy of scale spelled their decline. Only one mill building survives: now known as the Waterbury Feed Company, and its accompanying dam and penstock date to about 1830. The other surviving buildings in the district are residential, with most built between 1860 and 1890.</p><br>
<p>The district is bounded on the north by the bridge carrying Stowe Street across Graves Brook, and on the south by the northbound offramp of Exit 10 off Interstate 89. The ramp and high pass high over the area, with the footings for their bridges partially set on former industrial areas. The district includes houses on North Street, a side loop off Stowe Street, and Seabury Lane, a short spur extending west from North Street. Most of the houses in the district are vernacular, with some indications of either Greek Revival or Italianate styling. The most elaborate house in the district is the Baker house, which features a three-bay Greek Revival temple portico with a recessed porch set under a segmented arch in the gable.</p><br>
<p>The LeFerriere House is a historic house at 171-173 Intervale Avenue in Burlington, Vermont. Built about 1888 as worker housing in the city&#39;s Old North End, it is architecturally a distinctive vernacular interpretation of Queen Anne architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008 as the LeFarriere House.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The LeFerriere House stands near the northernmost extent of Burlingtons Old North End neighborhood, on the west side of Intervale Avenue roughly midway between Willow and Oak Streets. It is a 1-1/2 story wood frame structure, with irregular asymmetric massing. It has a complex multi-gabled roofline, clapboarded exterior, and a stone foundation. The highest roof ridge is parallel to the street, with forward projecting gabled wings. The front of the leftmost wing has the buildings most distinctive feature, a low polygonal turret above a single-story porch with turned posts and balusters. A modern shed-roof ell extends to the rear. The interior retains many original features, including Corinthian columns in the room under the turret and cabinets in the kitchen.</p><br>
<p>The area where the LeFerriere House stands was rural for many years. Even though a subdivision including its parcel was laid out in 1855, the house itself was not built until about 1888 by F.M. LeFerriere, a French Canadian immigrant. It was originally built as a two-family, and may have been first occupied by extended members of the LeFerriere family. From 1910 to 1961 the house was occupied by two Jewish immigrant families, exemplifying a changing trend in immigration patterns. The house is now divided into three units.</p><br>
<p>Monte Caçador and Pico Forcado Protected Countryside  is a protected area covering 3,367 hectare of land on the island of Boa Vista in Cape Verde. Its boundaries extend up to the area named Olho do Mar.</p><br>
<p>The alignment of the peaks forms a tiny mountain range that consists Monte Caçador (355 m, the fourth highest on the island), Pico Forcado (364 m, the third highest on the island) and the lesser Mesa Cágado (297 m).</p><br>
<p>It forms an orographic boundary with the Monte Passarão Formation, which forms a large part of the west central part of the island; the formation is the most important in Boa Vista Island. It is made up of peaks, mesas and other features. Surrounding the feature is an area of plain which covers the western portion, named Campo da Serra, and a plain where a creek named Ribeira do Norte is located.</p><br>
<p>The rock formation consists of phonolitic rocks and ankaramite of the Fundo de Figueiras Formation. Another formation is of that of Pico Forcado, which consists of subarid lava-originated rocks and sediments in the other parts. The marine sediment consists of calcarenite and limestone rocks. The rock formation was formed around 13 to 12 million years ago.</p><br>
<p>Kunlun volcanic group, also known as Ashikule, is a volcanic field in northwestern Tibet. Eight other volcanic fields are also in the area. The field is within a basin that also contains three lakes.</p><br>
<p>Volcanism in the field has produced lavas and cones, with rocks having varying compositions dominated by trachyandesite. Volcanism in the field may be influenced by faults in the area.</p><br>
<p>The dates obtained from the field range from 5.0 ± 0.6 million years ago to 74,000 ± 4,000 years ago. An eruption of Ashi volcano was observed in 1951, making this one of China&#39;s youngest volcanoes.</p><br>
<h2>Geological context</h2><br>
<p>The Tibetan Plateau formed through the collision of India with Eurasia. -rich volcanic activity in the Tibetan Plateau has been occurring since 50 million years ago. After 8 million years ago, this volcanism occurred mainly in northwestern Tibet. It is not clear why volcanism occurs in the Tibetan plateau considering that the area is dominated by the collision between continents rather than subduction, which happens in other volcanically active areas. Southward subduction of the Asian Plate and the northward one of the Indian Plate have been found. Mélange from these subducting plates forms the source material of the magmas of the volcanic fields in northwestern Tibet, although isotope data suggest that the Ashikule magma may not derive from subduction. Magma generation in Ashikule could have been affected by garnet or garnet-containing crustal layers. More generally, the crust beneath northern and central Tibet is suspected to be partially molten between 55 - of depth.</p><br>
<p>Rocks younger than 350,000 years have been found in the Tengchong system in the southeast and the Ashikule plateau in the northwestern part of Tibet. These are also the only volcanic systems with Holocene activity in Tibet. The volcanic areas of northwestern Tibet for the most part are situated at over 4,500 m altitude and are poorly accessible.</p><br>
<p>The Ashikule volcanic field is one among nine in northwestern Tibet, other volcanic fields are Dahongliutan, Heishibei, Kangxiwa, Keliya, Pulu, Qitaidaban, Quanshuigou and Tianshuihai. Some of these volcanic centres are occasionally grouped with Ashikule in the Yutian-Yumen volcanic zone. A pronounced seismic velocity anomaly in southern Tarim may be associated with the volcanism at Ashikule.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The Ashikule volcanic field is located in the Kunlun Shan, 131 km south of Yutian County, Xinjiang. It is one of the highest volcanic regions in the world. It occupies the southern parts of a large pull apart basin, the Ashikule Basin in the western Kunlun. This basin covers a surface area of 700 km&sup2; at an altitude of 4,700 m, sloping southeastward. East-west stretching of the crust may play a role in volcanic activity there. The numerous strike slip faults in the area could be involved too, whereas subduction of the Tarim Basin beneath the Kunlun is unlikely.</p><br>
<h2>Geomorphology</h2><br>
<p>There are 14 principal volcanoes in Ashikule, formed by lava, pumice and pyroclastics. Spatter cones and volcanoes of Quaternary age are in the Ashikule area, for a total amount of over 70 cones. Over 20 volcanoes have been found in the eastern part of the field, they reach heights of several 100 m. It features perfectly preserved cinder cones. Silicic lava domes are also found. The Ashikule basin is covered by 200 km&sup2; of lava from this field. Various kinds of rock coatings have developed on these lavas, some of biogenic origin.</p><br>
<p>Xi Shan is the westernmost volcano with a diameter of 500 m and a height of 25 - With a summit height of 5,104.6 m and a height of 400 m above base, Dahei Shan volcano is the highest volcano at Ashikule and features a V-shaped crater. 80 m high Wuluke cone north of Wukule lake features a crater lake. Migong Shan is east of Wuluke volcano. Yueya Shan has a 60 m high secondary cone within its 300 m wide crater; Maoniu Shan volcano is located nearby and they are surrounded by even smaller centres. Heilong Shan is a long volcanic ridge on the terraces of the Akesu River and to the east of it is the horseshoe-shaped Mati Shan and the 7 - high Dong Shan.</p><br>
<p>The trachyandesitic Ashi volcano, also known as Ka-er-daxi or Vulkan, (35.69885&deg;N latitude, 81.57623&deg;E longitude,) is south of Ashikule lake in a lava plateau, at an altitude of 4,868 m. The 350 m wide cone features an uneroded 120 m high cone with a 50 m deep crater breached to the south. Lava flows from Ashi extend both north and south and cover a surface area of 33 km&sup2, reaching as far as lake Ashikule.</p><br>
<p>There are three salt lakes in the area, Ashikule (also called Ashi or Aqqikkol), Shagesikule, and Wulukekule (also called Wuluke or Ulugkol). Ashi is 5.5 km long and Urukele 7 km. 40 m deep Ashikule covers a surface area of 14 km&sup2; and formed when a valley was dammed by lava. Wulukekule and Ashikule are separated from each other by lava. Between 13,000 and 11,000 years ago Ashikule and Shagesikule were one lake. Playas of the same name are found in the area and are a source of mineral dust. The basin is in the area of the upper Keriya River.</p><br>
<h2>Composition</h2><br>
<p>The field is dominated by trachyandesite and trachydacite, ranging from tephrite over trachyandesite to trachyte and rhyolite. Ashi volcano has erupted trachyandesite. Phenocrysts in the rocks contain clinopyroxene, olivine, orthopyroxene and phlogopite. Xenoliths of gneiss are found in the rocks of Ashi volcano.</p><br>
<p>Ashikule and Tengchong have high ratios of to in their composition. isotope data indicate that in comparison with the volcanoes of the Tengchong area, Ashikule volcanoes formed by slower melting of rocks. The magmas of Ashikule probably did not form under the influence of water metasomatism. The ultimate source rocks may be mafic-ultramafic rocks. The magma of Ashi volcano formed by the mixing of trachyandesitic magma with a more silicic component.</p><br>
<p>The conditions in the magma chamber of Ashi volcano have been estimated. There are two populations of rocks, one formed at temperatures of 1,135 - at a depth of 18 -, the other at temperatures of 1,104 - at a depth of 13 -.</p><br>
<h2>Climate</h2><br>
<p>The Ashikule basin is one of the driest areas of Tibet.</p><br>
<p>Discrepancies between dates obtained by surface exposure dating and potassium-argon dating on some rocks have been interpreted as being due to lava flows being covered by snow and ice in the past. From this it has been inferred that the Ashikule field was covered by glaciers during the Last Glacial Maximum, when temperatures decreased by 6 -.</p><br>
<h2>Geochronology</h2><br>
<p>Some ages are 5.0 ± 0.6 and 2.7 ± 1.8 million years ago and were obtained by argon-argon dating. Xi Shan volcano formed 2.8 million years ago. Mati Shan and a volcanic episode 120 km north of Ashikule occurred 1.63-1.21 million years ago. Most volcanoes formed 670,000 - 500,000 years ago, two other minor episodes occurred 440,000 - 280,000 and 200,000 - 120,000 years ago. Gaotaishan volcano is one million years and Binhushan volcano 370,000 years old. The youngest date was obtained by thermoluminescence dating, 74,000 ± 4,000 years ago.</p><br>
<p>The latest eruption was on 27 May 1951, at Ashi volcano as was reported by the newspaper Xinjiang Daily. The report claimed that soldiers building a road heard roaring and saw a column of smoke, which continued for several days. An ash layer from this eruption has been found in the Changce Ice Cap.</p><br>
<p>Another unconfirmed report claims an eruption took place in the 19th century. Presently, the field is dormant. Fumarolic activity has been observed in the northern side of the crater of Ashi volcano. It is one of the few active volcanic regions in China.</p><br>
<p>The magnitude 7.2 2008 Yutian earthquake took place 30 km south of the volcanic field, at the intersection of two major faults, the Karakax fault and the Altyn-Tagh fault. Volcanic activity may also be related to the Longmu-Gozha fault system.</p><br>
<p>Norsminde Fjord is an inlet on the east coast of peninsular Denmark at the village of Norsminde, some 20 km south of Aarhus. The inlet is about 3 km long and 700 m at the widest point and is shared between Aarhus and Odder Municipality.</p><br>
<p>The south section of Norsminde Fjord has been drained and is today coastal meadows, marsh or wetlands with rushes, mainly used for grazing animals. It is these wetlands in the south of the fjord that is known as Kysing Fjord which is Natura 2000 site (no. 59) and European Union Special Protection Areas bird sanctuary (no. 30). The bird sanctuary has a special focus on the whooper swan but other rare birds also nest in the area.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Norsminde Fjord is an East Jutland Fjord, a glacial moraine valley, created during the Weichselian glaciation c. 20,000 to 70,000 years ago. The stream Rævs Å flows into the fjord and over time it has suffered silting and become increasingly shallow. In 1832 the southern part of the Fjord was drained and made into farmland or wet meadows for animal grazing. In 1942 the remaining fjord and surrounding meadows were designated a wilderness preserve. However, the drained lands proved fertile and a good investment so in the 1950s it was attempted to drain the rest of the fjord. The draining effort failed and instead a sluice was installed to control water levels and flooding. The areas that were drained is today known as Kysing Fjord, 170 hectare of drained wetlands consisting mostly of wet and coastal meadows. The area has suffered damage from fertilizer runoff and wastewater from Odder and Malling over the years causing issues with algae blooms that displace vegetation and animals. Kysing Fjord is today a natural preserve.</p><br>
<h2>Nature preserve</h2><br>
<p>Many species of birds are found at the fjord and the inner wetlands but the nature preservation has a special focus on the whooper swan. It is a migratory bird which eats underwater vegetation and forages on wintergreen meadows. During mild winters the whooper swan stays in the area from April to November and the flocks here has been recorded to reach some 12,000 birds. The number of swans wintering in the area has risen over the years, possibly as a result of milder winters or maybe an enlarged area suitable for foraging. In and around the fjord the most common species of birds are eurasian coot, northern lapwing, eurasian wigeon, mallard, golden plover, tufted duck, eurasian teal, mute swan, a number of waders and, during cold winters, the common merganser. White-tailed eagle and peregrine falcons also have a presence in the area, both very rare and endangered birds in Denmark. The dominant species at Norsminde Fjord are dabbling ducks, a result of the large number of surface algae caused by previous years nutrient pollution from poor wastewater management and fertilizer runoff.</p><br>

<p>Kelly&#39;s Cave is a limestone solutional cave and National Monument in County Mayo, Ireland.</p><br>

<p>Kelly&#39;s Cave lies in woodland 500 m northeast of Cong.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>English antiquarian Wilfrid James Hemp suggested the cave may have had prehistoric use, comparing it to ancient caves in Sardinia.</p><br>
<p>It has been suggested that the cave may have been extended and modified in the middle ages for use as a hermitage related to Cong Abbey.</p><br>
<p>This cave is supposed to have taken its name from a fugitive named Kelly who took refuge there following the 1798 Rebellion.</p><br>
<p>Another local tradition claims that Kelly was a man who, along with his family, was forced to live there during the Penal era (17th–18th century). Kelly became a highwayman to survive.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The cave is about 16 m long and consists of two rectangular chambers and a hole in the roof which acts as a skylight. Four steps lead down to an underground stream, and benches have been carved into the walls.</p><br>
<p>Plymouth County Historical Museum is located in Le Mars, Iowa, United States. The building was originally Le Mars Central High School. The first school building in the city was constructed on this block in 1876. It was torn down in 1905 when the center part of this building was completed in 1905. The two-story, brick, Colonial Revival structure was designed by the Chicago architectural firm of Atchison and Edbrooke. Contractor for the project was John A. Huxtable of Le Mars. All 12 grades and the school district&#39;s administration were housed in the building. The first addition made to the school was completed in 1924. Sympathetic in style to the original building, the addition was designed by Beuttler & Arnold of Sioux City, and constructed by Devereux and Olsen of Minneapolis. It runs south and then west of the 1905 building and includes the gymnasium and auditorium. The final addition was completed in 1952 by Nemmers Brothers of Le Mars. Built onto the north side of the original building, it is typical of the 1950s "Industrial" style, and was designed by Beuttler as well.</p><br>
<p>The senior high school was the first division to leave the building in 1965 when the present Le Mars High School was completed. The junior high school moved to its own building in 1972. The school district housed the elementary school in the 1952 addition until 1980 when it closed the building. The Plymouth County Historical Society occupies the 1924 addition, and utilizes the space for their local history museum. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.</p><br>
<p>Akron Opera House is a historic building located in Akron, Iowa, United States. The American Insurance Company of Des Moines promised the local citizens that if the bought enough insurance polices they would build the town an opera house. The $18,000 building was completed in 1905, with the interior completed the next year. The first floor housed commercial space, with the opera house occupying the second and third floors. The 600-seat theatre featured a stage on the north end and balcony and main floor seating. The first play was the disappointing The Homeseekers on February 15, 1906. The first opera was The Rajah of Altara on February 28, 1906. Akron was on a circuit that brought traveling companies of actors, musicians and politicians to rural communities. In addition to musical and theatrical performances, the theatre hosted lyceum speakers, medicine shows, school events, boxing matches, basketball games, dances, Chautauqua’s, political gatherings, and church activities. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.</p><br>
<p>The Reeves Farmstead Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located north of Le Mars, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The contributing buildings include an American Four Square house, a barn, cob house and wash house, hen house, outhouse, machine shed, corn crib, two hog houses, and a garage. The non-contributing building is a second garage built in the late 20th century, and the non-contributing object is an incomplete wind mill. The buildings were all built in the late 19th- or early 20th century, but exact dates are uncertain. The fully integrated farmstead from the early to mid 20th century features buildings that utilize simple architecture that was typical of many Iowa farms.</p><br>
<p>The Giroux Furniture Company Building is a historic commercial building at 10-18 Catherine Street in the city of St. Albans, Vermont. Built in two parts , it is a reminder of the city&#39;s railroad-related history, and served for many years as an enduring commercial presence. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The former Giroux Furniture Company Building is located in central St. Albans, on a block bounded by Market, Lake, and Catherine Streets. It is set directly Lake Street from the Central Vermont Railway Office building, and across Market Street from the main railroad tracks. The front portion of the building is triangular in shape, an artifact of the historic alignment of Market Street, which angled toward Federal Street east of the railway office. It is two stories in height, built out of wood frame faced in brick veneer. A single-story showroom facade is built along the angled side of the building. To the rear of the triangular section is a large two-story warehouse of similar construction.</p><br>
<p>The rear warehouse portion of the building was built in 1896 by Hiram Weeks, who operated a feed store. He chose the location to efficiently move large volumes of goods from the railroad tracks to the west into the building, and then move smaller (but still large) quantities of goods to his customers on the east side. The feed business, eventually renamed or sold to City Feed Company, remained on the premises until 1936, adding the front triangular section in 1905. This addition was made to provide space for a vehicle repair business operated by Frederick Bedard and Henry Carlisle. In 1937 the building was acquired by the Giroux brothers, who opened what they claimed was Vermont&#39;s largest furniture retailer, also capitalizing on the presence of the nearby railroad for delivery of their goods. The Giroux Furniture Company closed in the 2000s, after nearly 70 years of operation.</p><br>
<p>The Montpelier Historic District encompasses much of the historic commercial and government district of Montpelier, the state capital of Vermont. The city center, focused on the confluence of the Winooski River with its North Branch, has been economically driven by state government since 1805, and had industry powered by the rivers. Its center reflects a diversity of 19th century architecture. In addition to the Vermont State House, the district includes The Pavilion, the commercial downtown area, and residential areas to the east and north. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and enlarged slightly in 1989.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Montpelier was chartered in 1781, and was a sleepy rural community when it was named the state capital in 1805, primarily for its geographically central location and access to road and waterways. This inaugurated a development boom, with State Street forming an important axis between the state complex and the town center. The town was named the county seat of what is now Washington County in 1811. Industrial development was enhanced by the arrival of the railroad in 1849, and the town&#39;s economy boomed after the American Civil War. It was reincorporated as a city in 1895. Growth slowed after World War I, with the rise of the automobile and increasing suburbanization.</p><br>
<p>The historic district is defined in large part by its two principal waterways. The North Branch flows south into the west-flowing Winooski River, with the central business district mainly northeast of their confluence. Major roadways parallel these two rivers, with State Street running west to the state capitol, and Barre and Berlin Streets running east. Main Street runs north-south to a branching point with Elm Street, where it turns east, constrained by the steep contours of the surrounding hills. The central business district is largely characterized by brick buildings built after twof fires swept the area in 1875.</p><br>
<p>The Palazzo Regio , also known as Viceregio , is a historic building in Cagliari, the ancient residence of the representative of the king of Sardinia during the Aragonese, Spanish and Savoy domination and now the seat of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari. It is located in the historical Castello district.</p><br>
<p>The building had been originally built in the 14th century and became the seat of the viceroy since 1337, at the behest of Peter IV of Aragon. Over the centuries the building underwent several modifications and extensions. Particularly significant were the 18th century restorations; in 1730, at the hands of the Piedmontese engineers de Guibert and de Vincenti it was built the grand staircase leading to the main floor, the rooms of which were restored in 1735 by della Vallea. The west facade, with the main portal in line with the staircase, was arranged by 1769, as evidenced by the inscription on the window bezel door that opens onto the central balcony.</p><br>
<p>Between 1799 and 1815 the palace was the official residence of the royal family and the court, in exile from Turin occupied by Napoleon.</p><br>
<p>In 1885 the palace became property of the Province, who established its representative office and oversaw the restoration of the interior, in order to adapt to the new function. In 1893 began the work of decoration on the Council room, by the perugian Domenico Bruschi for the frescoes and dell&#39;Angeletti for the stuccos. The work was completed in 1896.</p><br>
<p>The Heydaer Berg between Plaue and Ilmenau in the Thuringian county of Ilm-Kreis is a hill ridge of the Reinsberge which reaches its highest point at the Halskappe which is, shortly before the better known Reinsburg.</p><br>
<h2>Geography and geology</h2><br>
<p>The Heydaer Berg, located at the southern end of the Reinsberge and northeast end of the Heydaer Berg, lies between Schmerfeld to the northeast, Heyda to the southeast, Martinroda to the southwest and Neusiß to the northwest. It is about 4 kilometres long and a maximum of about 1 kilometre wide. Its southern continuation is the Veronikaberg which rises adjacent to the Reinsberge to the south. The hill is a muschelkalk formation and lies on the southeast boundary of the Ohrdruf Plateau facing the Paulinzella Foreland.</p><br>
<h2>Summit</h2><br>
<p>The Halskappe rises above the confluence of the Zahmer and Wilder Gera in Plaue by around 278 metres, the Prolle to the southeast by around 199 metres and the Heyda Reservoir (maximum surface elevation ) by around 188.8 m. Its topographic isolation is about 7 kilometres, extending to the Thuringian Forest to the southwest, and it has a prominence of just under 170 m.</p><br>
<p>The Lakeside Development, or the Lakeside Historic District, encompasses a historic company-built residential development in southern Burlington, Vermont. Isolated between the Vermont Railway railroad line and Lake Champlain and accessible only via Lakeside Avenue off Pine Street, the area was developed between about 1894 and 1910 by the Queen City Cotton Company, whose mill complex stood just to the east of the railroad line. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Lakeside Development occupies about 17 acre of lakefront area on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain. It is a residential subdivision, formed into small grid by Lakeside, Wright, Conger, Central, and Harrison Avenues. Most of the residences in the area are multiunit buildings housing anywhere from two to twelve units. The buildings are all of wood frame construction, with some finished in a brick veneer. There are five designs that are widely used, with a duplex configuration the single most numerous building type. Most of the block bounded by Central, Wright, Conger, and Harrison is an open field for public passive recreational use.</p><br>
<p>This residential area was laid out, built, and managed by the Queen City Cotton Company, and is the only company-built residential area of its type in the city. It was intended to be an entirely self-contained village, originally including a church, grocery stores, a school, and a billiard hall. The Queen City Cotton Company was established by George A. Draper, whose company was a major manufacturer of power looms. The company operated its mill east of the railroad until 1937, and sold off the residences, primarily to their tenants.</p><br>
<p>The Colonial Hotel is a historic building in Seattle located at 1119-1123 at the southwest corner of 1st Avenue and Seneca Streets in the city&#39;s central business district. The majority of the building recognizable today was constructed in 1901 over a previous building built in 1892-3 that was never completed to its full plans.</p><br>
<p>Built as a response to the boom created by the Yukon Gold Rush, the Colonial Hotel operated as a hotel into the 1970s and in the 1980s it was restored into apartments and connected to its southern neighbor, the Grand Pacific Hotel. Both were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Today they are know collectively as the Colonial Grand Pacific.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Following the Great Seattle Fire of 1889, the northward expansion of Seattle&#39;s business district from Pioneer Square, already in the planning stages prior to the fire, took on a rapid pace. A quick glut of new office space created by the boom however left many buildings incomplete and many more lots undeveloped as the economy began to cool in 1891. The 4-story Starr Building, built in 1890 on the west side of 1st Avenue between Spring and Seneca Streets, stood alone on the block until a second wave of construction began in 1892.</p><br>
<h3>The Kenyons</h3><br>
<p>Jacob Gardner Kenyon, a traveling ventriloquist and magician, first passed through Seattle in the early 1880s and with the ticket sales from his first show at Yesler Hall, purchased several lots on 1st Avenue before leaving town, purchasing even more on his second tour. The value of his property skyrocketed following the great fire but he refused all offers to lease it. In mid-1892, Kenyon commissioned prominent architect John Parkinson to design a six-story building of granite and white pressed brick to be built on his corner lot adjoining the Starr Building. Construction began in October 1892, and was only completed to the first floor on 1st Avenue, with the top 3 floors to be completed later. Kenyon died on December 22, 1892 and the property, along with all of Kenyon&#39;s Seattle holdings was willed to his son, Benjamin Kenyon. Litigation involving unpaid loans and under-compensated heirs soon followed along with the Panic of 1893, preventing the completion of the building for the rest of the decade.</p><br>
<h3>James Clise</h3><br>
<p>In December 1900, Prominent Seattle businessman and investor James Clise purchased the incomplete Kenyon Building and one other nearby lot from the Kenyon Estate for $430,000 and immediately made plans to complete the building to house a hotel to meet the demands of a city once again booming as a result of the Yukon Gold Rush. He commissioned architect Max Umbrecht, who had come to Seattle from Syracuse, New York earlier in the year under the employ of L.C. Smith. He designed several buildings for Smith&#39;s Pioneer Square properties and would go on to design several more for Clise and many more buildings in Seattle. Umbrecht chose an eclectic Federal motif for the top 3 floors of the building that would be built on top of the existing Kenyon building and likely inspire the hotel to be called the Colonial. In 1906 Clise sold the hotel to Sigmund Aronson and Harold Preston for $180,000.</p><br>
<h3>Weyerhaeuser</h3><br>
<p>In the mid 1960s, while many small downtown hotels in Seattle were being closed by the city&#39;s Nuisance abatement board, The Colonial Hotel was deemed to still be in fine condition and was allowed to stay open. Beginning in the late 70s, The Colonial and other historic buildings in the area were restored and redeveloped by Cornerstone Development Co, a subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser as part of the Waterfront Center project, which combined new construction with older buildings restored for housing. During restoration, The Colonial Hotel was interconnected with the Grand Pacific Hotel to the south and the complex became known as the Colonial Grand Pacific Apartments. The Colonial Hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 13, 1982.</p><br>
<p>Gudo de Caveliro is a mountain in the middle of the island Santo Antão in Cape Verde. It is the island&#39;s third highest point elevating 1,811 meters after Monte Tomé and Topo da Coroa. Nearby places includes the village Alto Mira to the west.The mountain is located in the Lagoa area and the Ribeira Grande-Porto Novo municipal boundary runs near the summit. Around the peak to its north is the source of Ribeira da Garça, a stream that flows northwards to the Atlantic, 6 km west-southwest of Fontainhas.</p><br>
<p>Rock formations includes that of the Lagoa Group and parts of the Coroa Group consisting of nephelite rocks, it was formed in around 400,000 to 100,000 years ago.</p><br>
<p>The mountain provides panoramic views of much of the island, including the many nearby valleys. With the exception of Tarrafal de Monte Trigo and the outer parts of the island&#39;s north, it provides views of Canal de São Vicente. The islands of São Vicente and São Nicolau are visible from the summit.</p><br>
<p>Le Mars Municipal Park and Golf Course Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Le Mars, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.</p><br>
<p>The city of Le Mars acquired 60 acre of land for the park in 1935 for $15,000, and it was dedicated later that year. The state agreed to carryout improving the park and building new facilities over a span of five years as Works Progress Administration (WPA) projects. Work on a nine-hole golf course began in 1936. Additional property was purchased in 1937 bringing the size of the park to 121 acre. It took at least five WPA projects to complete the work. The historic buildings and structures include: the west entrance portals, the custodian&#39;s cottage, a garage-service building, a small vehicle bridge, two artificial ponds, a bathhouse-shelter house, a Boy Scout/Girl Scout cabin, six Adirondack cabins, the clubhouse, and the golf course. This was one of the largest, if not the largest, recreational park constructed in Iowa in the 1930s. Nine more holes were added to the golf course in 1990, and a bike/walking path was completed in 1999.</p><br>
<p>The Foster Park Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Le Mars, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. The district comprises ten full blocks and nine half blocks. The historic buildings are houses and their attendant garages, carriage houses, or barns. The houses are between one and 2½-stories and are composed of frame, brick or stucco construction. For the most part they were built between the 1880s and the 1930s. Architectural styles include the revivals styles of the Late Victorian era to the Colonial Revival and American Craftsman styles of the early 20th century. Sioux City architect William L. Steele has several commissions in the district, as do other architects. Foster Park was established on one of the blocks along Central Avenue. It became a focal point for the neighborhood.</p><br>
<p>Bussol Strait  is a wide strait that separates the islands of Broutona and Chirpoy to the west from Simushir to the east. It is nearly 58 km  wide, making it the largest channel in the Kuril Islands.</p><br>
<p>It is named after the frigate Boussole.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The strait was a popular route in the 1840s for American whaleships entering and exiting the Sea of Okhotsk on their way to and from cruises for right whales. It was rarely used from the 1850s to the 1870s when ships primarily cruised to the north for bowhead whales, using the more convenient Fourth Kuril Strait further north instead. Among the few to use it during that period was the ship Susan (349 tons), of Nantucket, which was stove by ice and sank in the strait on the night of 27-28 April 1853 while attempting to enter the Sea of Okhotsk. Two men were lost, one drowning and the other perishing on the ice. The remaining twenty-five crew members crowded into two whaleboats and reached Urup on the afternoon of 29 April. Here they spent eight days before being rescued by the barque Black Warrior, of New London. With the revival of cruises for right whales in the southern part of the sea in the 1880s ships began to use it again. It was utilized as late as 1902.</p><br>

<p>The stone is believed to have been carved as early as 3800 BC.</p><br>
<p>This stone was later Christianised and called St Patrick’s Chair. It was made a waypoint on Tóchar Phádraig, a pilgrimage route; formerly this path led from Rathcroghan to Croagh Patrick.</p><br>
<p>The "rolling sun" phenomenon was rediscovered in 1989–92 by Gerry Bracken. A new panel of carving was found in 2014 by Michael Gibbons.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Boheh Stone is one of the finest examples of Neolithic rock art in Ireland, covered in many cup and ring marks and keyhole motifs; about 250 petroglyphs in total. It is a natural outcrop flecked with quartz.</p><br>
<h3>Rolling sun</h3><br>
<p>Twice a year (April 18 and August 24 by the Gregorian calendar), from the vantage point at the Boheh Stone, the sun can be seen to set at the summit of Croagh Patrick (7.1 km / 4.4 mi to the WNW) and appears to roll down its northern shoulder.</p><br>
<p>Kattaka Kayal  or Kattakayal is a freshwater lake in Kollam city in the Kerala state of India. The lake connects Vattakayal, a 36 acre freshwater lake in Maruthadi, with Ashtamudi Lake in the city.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Kattak Kayal is a part of Ashtamudi Lake and Vattakayal in Kollam. The two-km long stream was once the lifeline for most of the commercial activities at Sakthikulangara. Its width was 90 to 120 meters before 50 years. Three boat jetties were there along the course of Kattaka Kayal then and huge cargo vessels berthing for loading and unloading seafood items were a common view of Quilon city those days. It was home for more than 20 species of edible fish including Karimeen and Poomeen.</p><br>
<h2>Revival Program</h2><br>
<p>A revival program for Vattakayal and Kattaka Kayal has been launched at Kollam on 1 November 2016 by V. Rajendrababu, Mayor of Kollam Municipal Corporation. Kattakayal Punarjeevana Padhadi is an initiative of the Shakthikulangara-based cultural organisation Sagara Samskarika Sangham. The main aim of this program is to revive both the lakes through various phases that includes cleaning of the lake and awareness campaigns.</p><br>
<p>The Grist Mill Bridge, Dam and Mill Site consists of three structures located along Upton Road between Island Road and the Maple River, one-half mile west of Elsie, Michigan in Duplain Township. The three structures are:</p><br>
<p>Upton Road Bridge, the last known surviving metal truss highway bridge in Michigan built by Detroit Bridge & Iron Works, and one of only three remaining Parker truss bridges in Michigan.</p><br>
<p>Elsie Mill Pond Dam, a rock and earth-filled dam with a concrete cap and spillway.</p><br>
<p>Kellogg Bros. & Johnson Mill Site (designated archaeological site 20CL144), the foundation and associated remains of the 1865 Kellogg Bros. & Johnson grist mill.</p><br>
<p>The structures were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Duplain Township was first settled in the 1830s. In about 1845, Robert E. Craven (likely with his brothers Joseph and Thomas) constructed a saw-mill at this site. The saw mill operated for nearly 20 years. In 1865, Kellogg Bros. and Johnson purchased the site from Craven&#39;s estate and replaced the sawmill with a larger grist/flour mill, and built a timber dam to help power operations at the mill. Around the same time, a bridge was constructed crossing the Maple River a few hundred feet from the location of the current bridge, at the time carrying Upton Road over the Maple River. The grist mill operated for a number of years, going through multiple owners.</p><br>
<p>In 1901, Duplain Township voted to allocate money to replace the Upton Road bridge. The Detroit Bridge & Iron Works was contracted to build the steel superstructure of the bridge for $2,590. With planking, abutments, and labor, the total cost of the bridge was $3,228.57. In 1912, the current earth-and-concrete Elsie Mill Pond dam was constructed, replacing the 1865 timber version. The mill continued operating until 1950. In 1953, the building was remodeled and reopened as a feed and grain elevator. In 1966, a new Maple River crossing on Island Road was constructed, and the Upton Road bridge was closed to traffic.</p><br>
<p>The mill burned in 1969, leaving only the foundation remnants seen today. In 1976, Duplain Township, with the assistance of the Elsie Lions Club, turned the area into a park.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Grist Mill site is located on the Maple River. The Upton Road Bridge spans the river, approximately sixty feet west of the dam. The mill site is located directly on the southern bank of the river, about 75 feet east of the dam.</p><br>
<h3>Upton Road Bridge</h3><br>
<p>The Upton Road bridge is a single-span steel Parker truss bridge with pinned connections, sitting on concrete abutments. It spans 160 feet and is 16 feet wide. The deck consists of wooden planks laid atop the steel stingers, with wooden paving blocks on top, and a final layer of asphalt.</p><br>
<h3>Grist Mill Dam</h3><br>
<p>The grist ill dam is approximately 150 feet long and twelve to fifteen feet high. The main body of the dam is constructed from rock and earth-fill, and a concrete cap and spillway is placed on top. The spillway spans the entirety of the dam, and empties onto a nearly flat concrete apron five to seven feet in wide, and then onto a lower spillway. Concrete abutments are built at each end of the dam.</p><br>
<h3>Kellogg Bros. & Johnson Grist Mill Site</h3><br>
<p>The site of the former grist mill contains a rubble fieldstone retaining wall, along with foundation walls of the mill and millrace. The mill foundation is in an L-shape, with walls 75 to 85 feet long on the longer side, and twenty feet in the shorter. The walls range up to 15 feet in height. There is also evidence of two flumes running from the mill pond to the mill.</p><br>
<p>Rosdoagh Stone Circle is a court cairn and National Monument located in County Mayo, Ireland.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>Rosdoagh Stone Circle is located 700 m southwest of Rossport, near the mouth of the Glenamoy River.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The court cairn was built in the Neolithic Age. It was originally recorded as a "druid&#39;s circle" as it appears to the casual observer to be two concentric rings, however it is today recognised as a court cairn.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Rosdoagh is a large court cairn, with a near-circular kerb of 33 stones.</p><br>
<p>It once supported a cairn about 18 m (60 ft) in diameter, with sixteen stones surviving from a large central court, with a diameter of about 9 m (30 ft). A short gallery,</p><br>
<p>orientated roughly SSE-NNW, opens to the court at the SSE.</p><br>
<p>An oval bank surrounds the whole court cairn, about 27 × 20 m (30 × 22 yds).</p><br>
<p>Mount Ferguson, sometimes called Ferguson Mountain, is a mountain in the Municipality of Temagami, Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It overlooks Ferguson Bay of Lake Temagami with an elevation of above sea level, making it one of the highest mountains in the area. Mount Ferguson is situated near the boundary of geographic townships Cynthia and Aston.</p><br>
<p>The mountain is named after Peter A. Ferguson, a gold prospector from the town of Mattawa who staked mining claims on Mount Ferguson in the 1880s. He is also the namesake for Ferguson Bay, Ferguson Island and Ferguson Point. A fire lookout tower set up by the Department of Lands and Forests (now the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry) had formerly occupied the summit of Mount Ferguson. In 1966, the tower was no longer used which led to its eventual demolition around 1975.</p><br>
<p>Like the other highest peaks of this area, Mount Ferguson is underlain by Nipissing diabase. This forms a 2.2 billion year old magmatic province with an east-west extent of almost and a north-south extent of up to.</p><br>
<p>The Solomon Goodrich Homestead is a historic house at 4787 Ethan Allen Highway  in Georgia, Vermont. With its oldest section dating to the late 1780s, it is one of the community&#39;s oldest surviving buildings. Its later and more prominent brick front is a good early example of Federal period architecture. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Solomon Goodrich Homestead stands in a rural area of central Georgia, on the west side of US 7 north of its junction with Reynolds Road. The homestead consists of two conjoined structures, one brick and the other framed in timber. The main block is a 2-1/2 story brick structure, with a side gable roof and two end chimneys. The main facade is five bays, with a center entrance and windows that are simply framed and topped by brick lintels. Attached to the rear of this block is an older 1-1/2 story wood-frame structure. Its framing consists of ax-hewn timbers.</p><br>
<p>The house was built by Solomon Goodrich, one of Georgia&#39;s early settlers. Its oldest section appears to date to about 1786, not long after Goodrich arrived in the area, and the brick main block was built in the early 19th century, after a brickyard and sawmill had been established in the town. The older portion was thereafter historically used as a summer kitchen, and was probably used in farm-related operations such as the production of butter. The farm property remained in the Goodrich family until 1854, and was for many years owned and operated by the Ballards.</p><br>
<p>The National Clothespin Factory is a historic industrial building at One Granite Street in Montpelier, Vermont. Built in 1918, it is a significant local example of an early 20th-century wood-frame fractory, and was home to the nation&#39;s last manufacturer of wooden clothespins. Now adapted for other uses, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The former National Clothespin Factory is located in an industrial area southeast of downtown Montpelier, on the north side of Granite Street between the railroad tracks and the Winooski River. The main building is a three story wood frame structure, with a flat roof. It is twelve bays wide and two deep, with three asymmetrically placed entrances on the long street-facing facade, and a short tower at the northeast corner. Additions extend the building to the north, and there is a single-story shed-roofed office building between the main factory and the river.</p><br>
<p>The National Clothespin Company, founded in 1887, was one of two clothespin manufacturers in Montpelier, originally occupying space at One Main Street. It had this facility constructed in 1918, and operated here until 2003. Of a maximum of fifteen clothespin factories in the nation, it was the last to close down, the industry harmed by low-cost foreign competition and the advent of powered clothes dryers. The building is one of Vermont&#39;s best-preserved wooden factory buildings of the early 20th century, including among other items an original period elevator, manufactured by the Energy Elevator Company of Philadelphia.</p><br>
<p>Corbetts/Ebys Mill Bridge is a historic structure located northeast of Scotch Grove, Iowa, United States. It spans the Maquoketa River for 128 ft. James S. Applegate established a gristmill near this location in 1858. He was joined by John Corbett, who obtained ownership by 1868 and expanded the operation and added a sawmill. He petitioned the Jones County Board of Supervisors for an iron bridge at this location in 1870. They agreed to pay two-thirds of the construction costs with the final third paid for by local subscriptions. The contract to construct this bridge and a similar span in Monticello was made with Miller, Jamison & Company of Cleveland. Both are single span bowstring truss bridges that were completed in November 1871. This bridge has always been identified with the mill. Samuel Eby acquired it in 1875, and it remained in the family until 1913. The bridge was originally on a loop road that circled behind the mill pond. When County Road X73 was created in 1958 it bypassed the bridge to the south. The bridge has been under private ownership ever since. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.</p><br>
<p>The Main Street–College Street Historic District encompasses a historically fashionable residential area of Burlington, Vermont. Principally located along Main and College Streets between South Winooski and South Williams Streets , the area was one of the city&#39;s most exclusive residential areas from the early 19th century to the early 20th century, and includes a diversity of high quality architecture from that period. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The city of Burlington was first permanently settled in 1783, after earlier settlers had been driven from the area by raiding in the American Revolutionary War. Vermont was admitted to the United States as its 14th state in 1791 (after several decades in legal limbo), and it was in that same year that Burlington was chosen as the site of the state college, now the University of Vermont. The town&#39;s early economic activity was focused on the waterfront of Lake Champlain, with the downtown area taking shape around the courthouse square on Main Street near Church. Between the courthouse and the college campus developed into a residential area, partly due to the presence of a ravine (since filled in) that was spanned by a poor bridge. Lumber boomed as a business beginning in the 1820s, resulting in the construction of a number of fine Federal and Greek Revival Houses along Main Street, and College Street began to be developed in the 1830s. The area saw further significant development between 1880 and 1910, when a number of high style Victorian and Colonial Revival residences were built. This area also saw some commercial and civic development take place, particular the construction of what is now the Edmunds Middle School.</p><br>
<p>The historic district encompasses three blocks of Main and College Streets, from the eastern edge of South Winooski Street to the western edge of South Williams Street. It also extends along the west side of South Williams about two-thirds of the way between College and Pearl Streets. This area, about 47 acre, includes 64 historically significant buildings. Most of theses are originally single-family residences, and are finished mainly in wooden clapboards or brick. There are some multiunit apartment houses, and some of the larger mansions have been converted into apartments. One notable example is the Colonial Revival mansion of Joel Gates (381 Main Street), built in 1895 to a design by the noted architectural firm of Peabody & Stearns. There are two churches, both built in the 1860s, and the district is also home to the Fletcher Free Library.</p><br>
<p>The William H. and Alma Downer Campbell House is a historic house in Wabasha, Minnesota, United States. When it was built in 1874, it overlooked downtown Wabasha. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 for having local significance in the theme of architecture. It was nominated for being one of the largest and most prominent houses of its era in Wabasha.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Although the Campbell House has a brick veneer, it is a wood frame building on a limestone foundation. It has a somewhat irregular footprint, with three gabled sections that rise two stories and a fourth section that rises one story and has a flat roof. The house&#39;s massing, rooflines, window placement, and wide frieze boards suggest Greek Revival architecture, but the segmental-arched windows, bowed shutters, fanlight over the front doors, and centered attic window are more characteristic of Federal architecture.</p><br>
<p>In the house&#39;s original configuration, the wings to the northwest and southwest stood just one story, and the latter, a kitchen, was all wood. A major remodeling around the year 1900 raised both wings to two stories. They also received brick cladding, rooflines, and window treatments that were closely matched with the central section. During this remodeling the interior was retrimmed with oak and a grand staircase added.</p><br>
<p>A detached garage at the rear of the property is a more recent addition and is not considered a contributing element to the historic house.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>William H. Campbell settled in Wabasha in 1857, though he left temporarily to serve in the American Civil War. Upon his return he gained prosperity as a merchant and agriculturalist, one of the few Wabasha-based merchants to also have extensive farming interests. He served as Wabasha County auditor for many years beginning in 1872, and was also master of the Bear Valley Grange Hall. <p>The Anamosa State Penitentiary Cemetery, also known as the Iowa Mens Reformatory Cemetery or Boot Hill Cemetery, is located west of Anamosa, Iowa, United States. The first cemetery associated with the Iowa Mens Reformatory, now a penitentiary, was begun in 1876 at Prison Farm No. 1 or possibly at Farm No. 5. Its exact location is unknown. The graves are of those prisoners whose bodies were left unclaimed or were not taken to one of the states medical colleges. They were buried in common graves that contained up to eight bodies. Tall limestone markers were placed at each grave and contained the prisoners name and death date. They were moved here when this cemetery was established in 1914. Subsequent graves hold individual bodies, and are marked with shorter limestone markers with the prisoner&#39;s name, age, date of death, and sometimes their prison number. They are in three different styles. Two styles are upright stones, one with a triangular top and the other with a rounded top. They were used from 1914 to the 1940s. The third style of stone is a flat, horizontal marker that was used from the 1940s to the present.</p><br>
<p>The cemetery is a triangular piece of land located on Farm No. 1 with the graves arranged in rows at an angle. It is marked with an iron entrance gate with the words "Anamosa State Penitentiary Cemetery" across the top. It is surrounded by a white fence. The cemetery was listed as a historic site on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.</p><br>
<p>Farm No. 1, Iowa Men&#39;s Reformatory, also known as the West Farm, is located west of Anamosa, Iowa, United States. It was listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. When the property for the reformatory was acquired by the State of Iowa in 1872 it included 61 acre of farmland. Farming at the facility did not become a significant enterprise here until the turn of the 20th century. Before then the prisoners maintained a vegetable garden within the walls, and they raised sixty-five hogs. The state bought 80.31 acre of land in 1904 for farming operations and built a hog house and a stone barn, both are no longer extant. Minimum security prisoners did the farm work. The historic buildings were built between 1912 and 1939. They are all stone structures built in a simplified Romanesque Revival style. The influence of the style is found in the "heavy massing, texture of the stone, and the window, door, and corner treatments." The buildings were built for the following uses: South barn , barn granary , root cellar , North barn , slaughter house , processing plant , and the seed house, dining hall, cold frame .</p><br>
<p>By 1917, prisoners were farming 380 acre of state lands and 1,675 acre of leased lands. The products produced by the farms increased to include vegetables, animal feed, poultry, eggs, fruit, milk, and milk products for the prison. By 1930, the state had bought most of the land it farmed and operated six prison farms. A barn was converted into a cheese factory in 1931. The full operation continued into the 1970s when the slaughtering operation was discontinued, and the livestock herds were reduced. It also became more economical to buy vegetables rather than grow their own. Agricultural production began to increase again in the 1990s.</p><br>
<p>The Lorenz and Lugerde Ginthner House is a historic house in Wabasha, Minnesota, United States. It was built in 1882 in high Italianate style on a prominent corner lot. It was nominated for its elaborate Italianate architecture and status as the most intact and detailed example of the brick houses belonging to Wabasha&#39;s early merchant class.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Ginthner House is a brick building on a limestone foundation. The main section rises two stories, with two sections at the rear dropping to one-and-a-half and one story respectively. All three sections have shallow hip roofs. The front façade is spanned by an elaborate porch.</p><br>
<p>The tall, rectangular windows are topped with limestone hoods decorated with an incised boss. False gables rise above the roofline on both street façades. Each is pierced with an oculus windows that permits light into the attic. The cornice is highly detailed with dentils and brackets. In the corners and under the gables the brackets extend farther down onto the walls.</p><br>
<p>A one-story frame structure once protruded from the side of the rear section but has been removed. A kitchen porch and much of the ironwork were reconstructed in the 20th century based on an 1884 engraving of the house. Iron crests on the roof and porch were salvaged from an old hospital building in Menomonie, Wisconsin, and the fence was saved from a local cemetery. A detached garage at the rear of the lot is a modern addition and is not considered a historic asset.</p><br>

<p>Bir Kiseiba is a Neolithic archaeological site in Egypt, dating from approximately 11,000 - 5,000 BP, that lies approximately 250km west of the Nile in Lower Nubia. Excavated by Fred Wendorf, Romauld Schild, and Angela Close, Bir Kiseiba, along with Nabta Playa, has some of the earliest evidence for food production, permanent settlement, and more diverse technologies as compared to sites from the Late Pleistocene. Wendorf and associates argue that cattle and pottery were here as early as any other place in Africa, although this assertion has been challenged.</p><br>
<h2>Archaeology</h2><br>
<p>Most of the studies in the Bir Kiseiba region relate to the beginning of the Holocene when there was a wet period from about 11-10,000 BP until 5000 BP. There were two digging seasons at Bir Kiseiba, one in 1979 and the second in 1980. A total of 13 localities were excavated, scattered among four playas in the Bir Kiseiba region.</p><br>
<p>Occupations from throughout the Early Holocene were studied; however, the most emphasis was put on earlier sites occupied before 6500 BP due to limited resources, the locations of many later sites along the margins of the basins, previous studies had already been done at the later sites, and only the earlier sites could provide data related to the appearance of cattle to the Sahara. The earliest known settlements in the area have been radiocarbon dated to between 9800 and 8900 BP. Artifacts from these settlements yielded the remains of cattle and also sherds of pottery with designs distantly related to the Early Khartoum styles.</p><br>
<p>Faunal Remains</p><br>
<p>Many faunal remains were found at each site and include turtles, lizards, frogs, birds, desert hedgehogs, hares, lesser gerbils, striped ground squirrels, elephants, dorcas gazelle, and large bovids that Wendorf and colleagues believed to be domestic cattle.</p><br>
<p>The bovid remains were of particular interest. Taking into account the context in which these remains were found, the remains could be from wild cattle (Bos primigenius), domestic cattle (B.primigenius f. taurus), African buffalo (Syncerus caffer), or a giant buffalo species belonging to the genus Pelorovis. Unfortunately the specimens at Bir Kiseiba were not well preserved enough for comparative analysis. However, by referring to the size of the found remains, it is unlikely that the material comes from giant buffalo. The measurements do suggest that these animals were at least as large as wild cattle, but there is not enough information of the sexual dimorphism in size of these animals. Overall the size range of the bovid remains includes large domestic cattle and smaller wild cattle.</p><br>
<p>Pottery</p><br>
<p>During the Late Neolithic period (ca. 5100-4700 BC), smooth ceramic ware appeared at Bir Kiseiba, some of which was black-topped, similar to the characteristic ware of the early Predynastic period in the Nile Valley.</p><br>
<p>Approximately 300 ceramic sherds were found at the sites at Bir Kiseiba. There were no whole or reconstructable vessels found at any site.The surface colors of the sherds ranged from reds, to dark reds, to yellow-reds, yellow-browns, dark browns, and gray-browns. The core colors varied from reds, red-browns, dark browns, and very dark gray-browns. The colors of the ceramics suggest that they were fired in oxidizing atmospheres. Most of the vessels seem to have been constructed using a coiling technique and many were decorated with various motifs, the most common being the Woven Mat motif. The assemblages found at Bir Kiseiba are very similar to the Middle Neolithic assemblages found at Nabta Playa, and both fall within the Khartoum Horizon Style of ceramics.</p><br>
<p>There were 3 different techniques used to decorate the ceramics: impression, incision, and punctation. Impression was the most common, being used to produce several motifs. The most common motif consists of continuous impressions made with a square or rectangular-toothed comb, or possibly the serrated edge of a shell. This results in a motif that looks similar to basketry and is fittingly called Woven Mat.</p><br>
<p>Settlements</p><br>
<p>There are not enough data to make definitive statements about the early settlements that may have existed in the Bir Kiseiba region; however, Wendorf and colleagues do make some observations.</p><br>
<p>The earliest Holocene settlement sites are currently thought to be temporary camps only occupied in the time after the region&#39;s summer rains but before the periods of aridity. This is when there would be enough vegetation available for grazing populations, such as cattle and gazelles. The consistency of cattle bones points toward these small sites being temporary herding camps, where small groups of people would let their cattle graze and possibly hunt the other grazing animals found in the area, such as gazelles and hares.</p><br>
<h2>Controversy</h2><br>
<p>Twenty two cattle bones were found in the Nabta Playa - Bir Kiseiba area. Excavators argue that these bones are from domesticated cattle, basing their claims on the reconstruction of the ecology showing conditions that were too poor to support large animals without human intervention, forming the basis of the Wendorf-Schild Model. Others have countered that an environment capable of sustaining gazelles and hares would have enough vegetation to support large animals like rhino and elephant, thus being able to support wild cattle as well. There is also no known ecological zone that contains only hares and gazelle, which suggests that faunal records of the area are fragmentary and incomplete.</p><br>
<p>Measurements of the bones from Nabta Playa and Bir Kiseiba morphologically have fallen within the range of aurochs.</p><br>
<p>Mitochondrial DNA has also done little to support the Wendorf-Schild Model beyond showing that the wild Bos primigenius could be the primary source for early domesticated cattle.</p><br>
<p>The Dearborn City Hall Complex is a complex of three government buildings located at 13615 Michigan Avenue in Dearborn, Michigan. The complex includes the 1921 Dearborn City Hall , the 1929 Police and Municipal Courts Building, and an office/auditorium concourse addition constructed in 1981. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The settlement of Springwells, located around what is now the Dearborn City Hall, was first established along the Michigan Central Railroad line in 1837. Although Springwells was assigned a post office, it was not incorporated as a separate political jurisdiction until 1921, when the Village of Springwells was incorporated. That year the village commissioned architect Marcus Burrowes to construct the Springwells Municipal Building, Construction cost just over $200,000 (equivalent to $ in ). Burrowes envisioned the Municipal Building as the first of a complex of connected structures. Although his plan was never completely realized, additional structures were built in the 1920s to make a municipal complex.</p><br>
<p>With the tax base from the Ford River Rouge Complex and associated workers, Springwells rapidly grew into one of Detroit&#39;s largest and most prosperous suburbs, and the government complex grew along with it. A few years later the village was incorporated as a city, and in 1925 Springwells changed its name to Fordson. Also in 1925, the Fire Hall and Garage was constructed adjacent to the Municipal Building; the Fire Alarm Building was also constructed around the same time. In 1929, the City of Fordson consolidated with the nearby Village of Dearborn and Dearborn Township to form the City of Dearborn. In the same year, a Signal Bureau Building was added, along with the Police and Municipal Courts Building.</p><br>
<p>The Dearborn City Hall was the seat of power in Dearborn. The first mayor of the consolidated Dearborn was Henry Ford&#39;s cousin Clyde M. Ford, who served from 1929 to 1935. Orville L. Hubbard was mayor from 1942 to 1978. In 1979, three of the smaller buildings in the complex—the Fire Hall and Garage, the Fire Alarm Building, and the Signal Bureau Building—were demolished make room for the 1981 concourse addition.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Dearborn City Hall Complex occupies a nearly an entire block along Michigan Avenue near downtown Dearborn. The complex consists of three buildings: the 1921 Dearborn City Hall which faces north on Michigan Avenue, the 1929 Police and Municipal Courts Building which faces west on Maple Street, and the 1981 office, auditorium, and parking structure addition to the southeast, which connects the two other buildings. The site also includes a landscaped public park, a small paved war memorial plaza, and a small surface parking lot.</p><br>
<h3>Dearborn City Hall</h3><br>
<p>The Dearborn City Hall is a -story symmetric red brick Georgian Revival structure with a limestone base and hipped roof, designed in 1921 by Marcus Burrowes. It is approximately 300 ft long and 125 ft deep, with the main entrance located in the center of the main facade. The main elevation is five bays wide, with projecting three-bay wide wings at each end of the building. The windows are irregularly spaced, with double-hung, four-over-four units installed in the basement, divided light units with square heads on the first floor, and round arch divided light units on the second-floor. The roof is covered with clay tile, and a dominant Colonial cupola is located in the center of the building.</p><br>
<p>The interior of the building has a central corridor with terrazzo and marble floors on all four levels. The corridors have a marble wainscot, and each floor is connected with a grand curving marble staircase. Most of the interior space consists of offices and storage rooms, with plastered walls and ceilings. Most of these spaces were remodeled in 1981.</p><br>
<h3>Police and Municipal Courts Building</h3><br>
<p>The Police and Municipal Courts Building is a symmetrical U-shaped red brick -story Colonial Revival structure, designed in 1929 by architect John Kasurin of the firm Fry and Kasurin. The building measures approximately 250 ft long by 125 ft deep. The main facade has a central projecting three-bay limestone entrance section clad in limestone, flanked by five-bay wide portions at each end of the building. The center entrance contains a tall double-door entryway with a large glass light and limestone pediment lintel, with a pair of double-hung windows flanking the entry doors. Four Tuscan limestone pilasters support a projecting limestone entablature above the entry. The windows in the structure are irregularly spaced, and include double-hung three-over-three units in the basement, and square head double-hung eight-over-eight units on the first and second floors.</p><br>
<p>The interior of the building is similar to that of the City Hall, containing a central corridor with terrazzo and marble floors on all levels, with a marble wainscot on the upper floors. A grand curving marble staircase connects the floors in the central lobby. Most of the interior space consists of offices and storage rooms, with plastered walls and ceilings. Most of these spaces were remodeled in 1981.</p><br>
<h3>Concourse Addition</h3><br>
<p>The Concourse Addition does not contribute to the historic district. The addition is a partially underground cast-in-place concrete structure designed by Rosetti Associates in 1981 to provide a basement-level connection between the other two buildings.</p><br>
<p>Bulandi Bagh is an area of the archaeological site of Pataliputra . It is mainly known for the discovery of the monumental Pataliputra capital, unearthed in 1895 by L.A. Waddell, as well as the excavation of wooden palissades thought to have formed the protective walls of ancient Pataliputra. Bulandhi Bagh is thought to have been part of the Maurya dynasty royal palace in Pataliputra.</p><br>
<p>Other excavations in 1912-1913 took place in the area of Bulandi Bagh under American archaeologist David Brainard Spooner, working for the British Archaeological Survey of India. Spooner devoted most of his resources to the site of Kumrahar to the south, but in Bulandi Bagh, he found a wooden palissade, punch-marked coins and terracotta figures (head of smiling boy and dancing figure), and various beads and seals.</p><br>
<p>In 1926-1927, J.A. Page and M. Ghosh for the Archaeological Survey of India excavated the area again leading to the discovery of large wooden palissades (137 meters were excavated), also thought to be of the Mauryan period. It is thought that it is the palissade seen by Megasthenes during his visit to Pataliputra. Strabo in his Geographia, quoting Megasthenes:</p><br>

<p>Hathaways Tavern is a historic public accommodation at 255 North Main Street in the city of St. Albans, Vermont. Built in 1793, it is the citys oldest surviving building, and was briefly used as the seat of the Franklin County government. A private residence since 1805, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The former Hathaway&#39;s Tavern house stands near the northern city limit of St. Albans, on the east side of North Main Street south of Lakeview Terrace. The building is prominently situated on top of a low knoll near the road, a contrast to both surrounding commercial development to the north and west, and to residential development to the south that is generally set further back from the street on level lots. It is a two story wood frame structure with a hip roof and clapboarded exterior. The roof cornice is decorated with modillions, and the centered front entrance is flanked by sidelight windows and sheltered by a gabled Colonial Revival portico. The interior of the house is a modified Georgian center hall plan, with large central halls that acted as entertainment spaces when the building was used as a tavern, and were altered to accommodate domestic uses upon conversion to a residence.</p><br>
<p>Silas Hathaway was a wealthy English immigrant who came to the St. Albans area in 1788. He purchased a farm on North Main Street in 1789, and built this tavern in 1793. It has a hand-hewn timber frame, with sawn wood that was shipped via Lake Champlain from a sawmill in Whitehall, New York. He eventually moved to Swanton, where he owned several mills, suffered financial reverses, and died penniless in 1831. Between 1797 and 1801 the tavern was the meeting place for the county court of Franklin County, and it also served for a time as the post office. It was purchased in 1800 by Asa Fuller, who continued to operate the tavern until 1805, when he sold the building to Doctor Julius Hathaway. Hathaway undertook conversion of the building to a residence, and it remained in the hands of his descendants until 1931.</p><br>
<p>The Nichols House is a historic house at the junction of Little John and Waterman Roads, south of the East Barre village of the town of Barre, Vermont. Built in 1799, it is one of the Barre areas oldest surviving buildings, built by one of the towns first settlers. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.</p><br>

<p>The Nichols House stands in a rural area of eastern Barre, on the northern corner of the four-way junction of Little John, Waterman, Donahue, and Lowery Roads. The house is oriented facing southwest toward Little John Road. It is a 1-1/2 story wood frame Cape style house, with a gabled roof, central chimney, and clapboarded exterior. Its main facade has three bays, with a central entrance flanked by sash windows. The molding surrounding the doors and windows is simple, and the only significant architectural note is the four-light transom window above the entrance. A modern ell, also 1-1/2 stories, extends to the right, stepped back from the main block.</p><br>
<p>Thomas Nichols moved with his family to the Barre area from Worcester, Massachusetts in 1799, and built this house. He died the following year, leaving his seventeen-year-old son as head of the household. The house remained in the family until at least the late 19th century. It is an extremely rare example of a vernacular pre-Greek Revival house in the Barre-Montpelier area.</p><br>
<p>The McNeil Homestead is a historic ferry-related property off Wings Point Road in Charlotte, Vermont. The complex includes a 19th-century house, former tavern, and barn, all built by members of the McNeil family, the first operators of the Charlotte-Essex Ferry, whose eastern terminus is just south of the property. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The McNeil property occupies the southwestern part of Wings Point, a westward projection into Lake Champlain that forms the northern boundary of McNeil&#39;s Cove, the bay from which the ferry service between Charlotte and Essex, New York runs. Oriented facing south toward the cove are a c. 1800 Federal period wood-frame house and an 1830 Greek Revival tavern, now used as a residence. To the north of the house stands a barn with an estimated construction date of 1850.</p><br>
<p>Thomas McNeil settled this area in 1787, moving here from Tinmouth, where he had lost property during the American Revolutionary War due to his supposed Loyalist sympathies. He quickly became a prominent local citizen, serving in town offices and the state legislature. He inaugurated the ferry service in 1790; it was the first cross-lake service, and continues to serve as a vital transportation link despite improvements in other transportation options. It was a highly lucrative operation in the first half of the 19th century, and McNeil&#39;s son built the tavern in 1830 to serve the passenger trade. Freight business declined on the route due to expanding railroad networks, and the McNeils returned to farming as a primary activity.</p><br>
<p>The State Quarry, Iowa Men&#39;s Reformatory is a nationally recognized historic district located northwest of Anamosa, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. This was the second quarry operated by the Anamosa prison. The first was opened in 1872 near Stone City in 1872, and it was exhausted by 1877. They acquired two 40 acre parcels here in 1878 and another the following year. The stone quarried and dressed on site by the prisoners was used to build the prison and sold to other government agencies in the state for their building purposes. None of the stone was placed on the open market. The Chicago and North Western Railroad provided a connection to transport the materials. The last of the usable building stone was quarried in 1915, when they shifted to crushed gravel. The quarry remained in operation until 1943.</p><br>

It is located between Chã das Caldeiras north of the northern part and is inslde the municipality of Mosteiros, other places within the mountain include Feijoal. It has one of the most important forest reserves in the country. It has path accessible to the hikers connecting the caldeira and the Atlantic.</p><br>
<p>Up above, it has panoramic views of much of the northeast of Fogo and the western part of the island of Santiago, Maio can almost not be seen.</p><br>

It has a precipitation season located at the altitude of 1,300 meters, it observes monthly rainfalls and reval important differences. For an example, the yearly precipitation between 1970 and 1988 measured in Feijoal and Mosteiros, at an altitude of 285 m and by the coast, 322.4 millimeters was measured in Patim located on a semi-arid part of the south coast at the elevation of 535 meters, received only 162.6 However, the Portuguese geographer Orlando Ribeiro studied the volcano area in the 1950s just before the 1951 eruption., rainfall amount measured at 1,037 mm on the mountain compared to 509 mm at Feijoal. A German thesis compared the irregularities in 2000 with 383.6 mm in 1998, 1,480 in 1999 and 1,457 in 2000.</p><br>

<p>Trees includes eucalyptus, pines, mimosas, lemon and cypresses, it is protected as part of Monte Velha Forest Perimeter (Perímetro florestal de Monte Velha) which covers 850 hectares of land located at an altitude of 1,000 meters and includes the summit.</p><br>
<p>The nature reserve was suffered by a few forest fires. In 2004, 300 hectares was destroyed, a third of the area. On April 23, another forest fire but smaller destroyed 80 hectares, about 6% of the forest perimeter, it affected the area rich in endemic plants including the tortoise flower (Euphorbia tuckeyana), lantisk (lantisco) (Periploca chevalieri), losna (Artemisia gorgonum), erva-cidreira (Satureja forbesii), the Cape Verde (or Capeverdean) wallflower (Erysimum caboverdeanum). With the help of rainfall, reforestation campation started in early August 2011.</p><br>
<h2>Fauna</h2><br>
<p>Fauna also dominates the area, one of them the Cape Verde warbler (Acrocephalus brevipennis) has its habitat area up to 1,300 meters, they are not founded in the southernmost part, its bird population was discovered along with the others in the north somewhere around after 2010. the Cape Verde warbler (Acrocephalis brevipennis) are founded in the area.</p><br>

<p>Jocotitlán, also known as Xocotépetl, is a volcano in the Jocotitlán and Atlacomulco municipalities, in the State of Mexico. At 3,910 m above sea level, its summit is the 12th highest peak of Mexico.</p><br>
<p>Jocotitlán volcano lies in the northern part of the Toluca Valley. It is part of the Eje Neovolcánico, a volcanic belt that traverses south-central Mexico. It is a stratovolcano formed by tephra and solidified lava flows. The volcano lies within the Isidro Fabela state park, a protected area of 3701 ha established in 1975.</p><br>
<p>Jocotitlán was considered holy by the Mazahua and Otomi peoples. The former called it Nguemore ("sacred mountain"), while the latter called it Gumidi ("he who sits facing straight forward"). In Pre-Columbian Mexico, the volcano held a sanctuary for Otontecuhtli, the Otomi king of the gods, also known to the Nahua people as fire god Xiuhtecuhtli. The volcano has also held a Catholic chapel since the 1980s. At 3,670 m, it is probably one of the highest chapels in Mexico.</p><br>
<p>Jocotitlán is a potentially active volcano, having erupted at least twice in the last 10,000 years. A series of cinder cones lying just north of the Jocotitlán volcano shows how intense the volcanic activity in the region is. If it erupts, the volcano could pose a serious threat to Greater Toluca and even Greater Mexico City.</p><br>
<p>The volcano can be easily climbed from the town of Jocotitlán. A winding 19 km country lane leads up to the microwave antenna located near the summit.</p><br>
<p>The Dolmen of the Four Maols is a cist and National Monument located in County Mayo, Ireland.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The Dolmen of the Four Maols is located on Primrose Hill overlooking the River Moy, southwest of Ballina, outside the Road Safety Authority office.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>This cist was erected c. 2000 BC.</p><br>
<p>According to Irish legend, in the early 7th century Guaire Aidne mac Colmáin was King of Connacht. The rightful king, Cellach of Killala, had become a priest and later bishop of Kilmoremoy (Ballina). Four of Guaire Aidnes brothers murdered him; they are known as the four Maols from the Irish word maol, "bald", referring to their tonsures – they were students of Cellachs (Mael Mac Deoraidh, Maelcroin, Maeldalua, and Maelseanaigh). The four Maols were quartered at Ardnaree and then, supposedly, buried on Primrose Hill under the Dolmen of the Four Maols.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The massive capstone rests on three stones forming three sides of the square chamber. A fourth stone (probably the fourth side) lies nearby.</p><br>
<p>The Cadamosto Seamount is a seamont in the North Atlantic Ocean just 20 km southwest of the island of Brava, Cape Verde.</p><br>
<p>The seamount is named after the explorer Alvise Cadamosto who explored Cape Verde in 1456.</p><br>
<h2>Geography and geology</h2><br>
<p>The seamount is at the southwestern end of the Cape Verde Rise and is located near the Cape Verde Basin. It forms a part of the Fogo-Brava Platform which also includes Ilhéus do Rombo. The lowest point is 4,400 below sea level at the ocean floor. The flattened tip is at 2,900 meters below sea level. The highest point is about 1,500 meters below sea level.</p><br>
<p>Rock formations composes of phonolithic rocks, a part makes up of crystallized nephelite. Other rocks includes clinopyroxene, titanite, apatite and feldspar.</p><br>
<p>The seamount&#39;s magma is about 206Pb/204Pb ratio of 19.5 isotope moderately to depleted mantle with a very high εNd component.</p><br>
<h2>Earthquakes</h2><br>
<p>Earthquakes occurred at the seamount between 1998 and 2004 and shook the island of Brava. The last earthquake measured at 4.3 on the Richter magnitude scale.</p><br>
<p>The Anamosa Main Street Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Anamosa, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. The district takes in most of the city&#39;s central business district. For the most part, the buildings here were used for commercial purposes, but some of them housed light industrial operations, the post office, and the Masonic lodge. The buildings generally range from one- to two-stories, but a couple structures are three-stories in height. Built between the 1860s and the early decades of the 20th century, the buildings are composed of masonry construction. Several were built using the areas limestone. The Italianate style is dominate, but other late 19th and 20th century revivals, and late 19th and early 20th century American movements are also found here.</p><br>
<p>Other than its architecture, what makes Anamosa standout is that unlike most other Iowa citys it was never properly platted. Instead, the city grew organically from three commercial nodes. One was located in the flood plain of the Wapsipinicon River, and two others on the higher ground to the east. The two on the higher ground developed together and are the basis for this districts development. The city saw rapid development with the advent of the railroad through town and the demand for the limestone quarried from the area. The development of the Anamosa State Penitentiary beginning in the 1870s also affected the city&#39;s economic fortunes.</p><br>
<p>Las Derrumbadas  is a rhyolitic twin dome volcano in the Mexican state of Puebla. Often overlooked for its proximity to some of the countrys most famous mountains —including Cofre de Perote, Sierra Negra and colossal Pico de Orizaba— its two summits are nevertheless within the top 30 of the countrys highest mountain peaks.</p><br>
<p>Officially, both mountains are individually called Cerro Derrumbadas. To distinguish them, they are called Derrumbada Roja or Derrumbada de Fuego (Red or Fire Derrumbada, southeastern cone, 3480 m a.s.l.), and Derrumbada Azul or Derrumbada de Agua (Blue or Water Derrumbada, northwestern cone, 3420 m a.s.l.) by the locals. A third mountain, nearby Cerro Pinto, is often included in the Derrumbadas complex, under the name of Derrumbada Blanca (White Derrumbada, 3000 m a.s.l.).</p><br>
<p>Due to the volcano&#39;s fumarolic activity, it has been studied and proposed as a source of geothermal energy.</p><br>
<p>Tibitó is the second-oldest dated archaeological site on the Altiplano Cundiboyacense, Colombia. The rock shelter is located in the municipality Tocancipá, Cundinamarca, Colombia, in the northern part of the Bogotá savanna. At Tibitó, bone and stone tools  and carbon have been found. Bones from Haplomastodon, Cuvieronius, Cerdocyon and white tailed deer from the deepest human trace containing layer of the site is carbon dated to be 11,740 ± 110 years old. The oldest dated sediments are lagunal clays from an ancient Pleistocene lake.</p><br>
<p>Main researcher of Tibitó is Colombian archaeologist Gonzalo Correal Urrego, who also analysed other early sites Tequendama, Aguazuque and El Abra.</p><br>
<h2>Background</h2><br>
<p>The Altiplano Cundiboyacense, and its southeastern flat portion the Bogotá savanna were populated by the first humans in the late Pleistocene, as evidenced by finds in Pubenza (16,000 years BP), El Abra, Tibitó and others. Until roughly 30,000 years BP, the Bogotá savanna was covered by a large lake; Lake Humboldt. This glacial lake surrounded by snowy peaks was fed by the glaciers of Sumapaz in the south, based on analysis of debris flow deposits close to Fusagasugá, yielding ages between 40,000 and 7000 years BP. The approximately 4,500 km&sup2; large lake contained an island, presently known as the Suba Hills (Cerros de Suba), in Bogotá. Surrounding the lake, Pleistocene megafauna as Glyptodonts, giant sloths, mastodons and deer foraged. The lake retreated during the last 30,000 years, but remnants still existing today are the Bogotá River and its tributaries, Lake Herrera and the many Wetlands of Bogotá. The timber line around Lake Humboldt, in older texts named Lake Bogotá, has been estimated to have been 1,000 m lower than today.</p><br>
<p>During the latest Pleistocene and early Holocene, the first humans arrived on the Andean high plateau at 2,650 m above sea level. They settled in caves and rock shelters in various locations on the Altiplano and had a hunter-gatherer lifestyle. The main ingredient of the early diet existing until colonial times was white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus). Fishing in the many lakes that existed in those times was another source of food for the people.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Radiocarbon dating of a deeper lagunal clay in the sequence of Tibitó revealed the site was in a lake environment around 52,000 years BP. Pleistocene lakes also existed in the Ubaté-Chiquinquirá Valley to the northwest and in the valley of Soatá, in the lower altitude northeasternmost part of the Muisca Confederation. The paleoclimate changed over the course of the latest Pleistocene and the Upper Pleniglacial was relatively humid, eroding earlier lagunal clays. The latest stage of the Pleniglacial was characterised by a cold and dry climate. In the valleys, hunter-gatherers lived. The original topography was covered in the Guantivá interstadial and El Abra stadial by humic sediments.</p><br>
<p>At Tibitó remains of the extinct Pleistocene megafauna Cuvieronius, Haplomastodon and Equus amerhippus and extant white tailed deer and crab-eating fox have been found set in a circle. The bones were burnt and unburnt and mixed with stone artifacts and limestone chunks. The most important finds of Cuvieronius come from the Eastern Cordillera, with main sites Tibitó and Mosquera. 156 unifacial stone artifacts, of which 41% knives, Ninetynine percent of the finds were from local origin. The bones, showing a relative higher abundance of Haplomastodon than Cuvieronius and the extinct American horse, have been carbon dated to be 11,740 ± 110 years old. This was confirmed by palynological analysis, that also indicated a páramo climate at the time. This makes the site slightly younger than the oldest; El Abra, dated at 12,400 ± 160 years BP.</p><br>
<p>In the vicinity of Tibitó, rock art has been discovered.</p><br>
<p>Checua is a preceramic open area archaeological site in Nemocón, Cundinamarca, Colombia. The site is located 7 km north of the town centre. At Checua, thousands of stone and bone tools, stone flakes and human remains have been found, indicating human occupation from around 8500 to 3000 years BP.</p><br>
<p>Main archaeologist for Checua is Ana María Groot, who published the results of her research in 1992.</p><br>
<h2>Background</h2><br>
<p>The Altiplano Cundiboyacense has been inhabited at least since 12,500 years ago. The first human settlers migrated via the Darien Gap from Central America to South America and led a hunter-gatherer lifestyle. They populated the rock shelters of the high plateau in the Andes, then still with abundant Pleistocene megafauna as Cuvieronius, Haplomastodon, Equus amerhippus and giant sloths.</p><br>
<p>During this preceramic phase, the population shifted from rock shelters to open area settlement, of which Galindo and Checua are among the oldest. A later site in Soacha, Cundinamarca; Aguazuque is comparable to Checua.</p><br>
<p>During the second millennium before present, the population increased and settlements became bigger. This is evidenced in the findings at the salt mine of Nemocón.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<h3>Geology</h3><br>
<p>Checua is located in a valley of the Altiplano Cundiboyacense and its geology is determined by the Andean orogeny. Checua lies in the middle of a rich halite area, with salt mines in Nemocón, Zipaquirá and Tausa surrounding the site. The sedimentary sequence consists of the oldest outcropping units of the Villeta Group of Early Cretaceous age. This sequence is followed by the sandstone formations of the Guadalupe Group, Late Cretaceous in age. Overlying the Mesozoic section is the Maastrichtian to Paleocene Guaduas Formation. Due to the Andean tectonic movements, most of the Tertiary section is eroded or non-deposited and the Guaduas Formation is overlain by the Pleistocene Sabana Formation.</p><br>
<h3>Climate</h3><br>
<p>The climate of the area around Checua is constant throughout the year with an average maximum temperature of 21.9 &deg;C and an average minimum of 3.05 &deg;C. The yearly precipitation varies from 600 mm to 750 mm, mostly in short erosional showers. The winds can be strong and aid the erosive process of the water.</p><br>
<h3>Vegetation</h3><br>
<p>The vegetation was of a lower altitude dry forest type with native species Dodanae viscosa, Baccharis sp., Prunus capuli, Xilosma speculiferum, Duratana mutissi, Lupinus sp., dividivi (Tara spinosa), Solanum sp., Hesperolemes heterophyla and fique (Agave sp.).</p><br>
<h3>Stone tools</h3><br>
<p>The Checua site has been divided into nine stratigraphical units of sands and clays. More than 1750 lithic tools have been found in the units, with a highest frequency in units 4 and 5b. They mostly consist of scrapers and knives. Furthermore, 2820 stone flakes, interpreted as materials to build tools have been discovered, with a highest frequency in unit 8.</p><br>
<h3>Bone tools</h3><br>
<p>Various bone tools have been found in Checua. The type is very similar to those found at Aguazuque and Tequendama. Apart from tools, also a musical instrument made from bone has been uncovered. This bone flute was discovered in stratigraphic unit 5b at a depth of 60 cm.</p><br>
<h3>Tooth enamel</h3><br>
<p>Dating of the tooth enamel of one of the remains, using Electronic Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), provided an age of 7850 ± 190 years BP. Using the same method, in 2014 another tooth enamel was analysed, providing an age of 5021 ± 202 years BP.</p><br>
<h2>Human occupation phases</h2><br>
<p>Analysis of the various stratigraphic levels and the tools found, led to the identification of four zones of human occupation within a total time span of 5500 years (6500-1000 years BCE). The first zone, dated to about 8500 to 8200 years BP, contains mostly scrapers and perforators used for the elaboration of meat and animal skins. The second zone of occupation, lasting from about 8200 to 7800 years BP, consists of various burial sites. Here, also scrapers and perforators were found, together with the main ingredients of the diet of the people; white tailed deer and guinea pig. In this zone, the bone flute has been unearthed. The third level corresponds to the seventh stratigraphical unit where many bone fragments were found. The unit has been compared to Aguazuque for dating at around 5000 years BP, possibly lasting till 4000 years BP. As is the case with Aguazuque, the fourth and uppermost zone has been disturbed by modern agricultural activities and the presence of glass indicates contamination with postcolonial influence. A top age for the sequence has not been provided, but an occupation until 3000 years BP is suggested.</p><br>
<p>The Henry M. and Annie V. Trueheart House is a residence of historic significance located in the town of Fort Davis, the seat and largest town of Jeff Davis County in the USA state of Texas. The house was built in 1898 and, along with the surrounding property, was added to the National Register of Historic Places  in 1996. The Trueheart House has also been distinguished as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark  since 1964.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Trueheart House and surrounding property occupy a one-block portion of the Paradise Valley Subdivision on the western edge of the town of Fort Davis located at 101 Madrone Street although officially at 804 Court Avenue with the county tax appraisal district even though the house faces eastward toward Madrone rather than northward toward Court. The property is bounded on the north by Court Ave., on the east by Madrone St. (formerly known as Seventh Street), and on the south by Woodward Avenue. No street separates the property from others to the west. Palisade cliffs of the Davis Mountains partially enclose the town to the north and west providing a backdrop setting for the property. An outcrop of large boulders extending northward from the north and northwest facings of the house provide a transition from the cliffs to an expansive view of a Chihuahuan Desert high-altitude plateau to the southeast. Court Avenue, running along the north side of the property, connects the property to the Grierson-Sproul House at the west end of the avenue and to the Jeff Davis County Courthouse at the east end, both of which are listed on the NRHP. Fort Davis National Historic Site is located nearby at the north end of town.</p><br>
<p>The central main house dominates the property and has a frontal facade facing eastward toward Madrone St. The house is adjacent to a large, rocky outcrop on the north, and along the western edge of the outcrop are located a windmill, a cistern and pump house, and a water storage tank. To the south of the main house runs an unpaved drive beginning at Madrone St. that passes through and around a porte-cochère physically separate from the houses south approach, and then veers southward to Woodward Ave. southwest of the house. An additional drive branches northward passing in front of the houses main entrance on the east and then doubles back to Madrone St. The main house with its porte-cochère along with the windmill, cistern and pump house, and tank are considered contributing resources to the property&#39;s NRHP designation.</p><br>
<p>Non-contributing buildings on the property include a guest house located west of the main house near the western property boundary and a garage near the southwest corner. Other non-contributing structures consist of a gazebo with accompanying piazza near a stone play house southwest of the main house, and stone retaining walls or fencing located within and around portions of the property. Other listed non-contributing objects include a flagpole in the yard in front of the main house and a former sign at the northeast corner of the property.</p><br>
<p>The Trueheart House is an approximately 2,600 ft2 Queen Anne style residence sitting atop a foundation and support walls made of native stone with sand and lime mortar upholding 18 inch double-brick plastered adobe walls which hold deep openings for imported milled wood-frame doors, windows, and roofing. Two chimneys vent four fireplaces within the house. The eastward-facing frontal facade features a northeast bedroom extending outward from the rest of the home&#39;s interior. At the southeast corner of the home is a circular balcony above a round exterior turret. The balcony extends into a central veranda ending at the wall of the northeast bedroom, accessed by a stairway directly across from the main entrance to the house from a sidewalk across the front lawn accessed from an additional stairway leading from the street. Around the corner of from the veranda on the circular balcony, a stairway descends nearly 8 ft to a stone patio between the house and the porte-cochère, which itself has steps leading to the drive. A series of planters behind a stone retaining wall extend from the porte-cochère to the southwest corner of the house. The veranda is elevated 6 - above the ground due to the slope of the surrounding property. The front roofing features a gable over the northeast bedroom, a larger gable over the veranda, and a conical, shingled "Chinese" cupola over the turret. The back of the house features a stone porch outside the kitchen with doorways to the kitchen and northwest bedroom as well as steps leading to ground level on the south beyond the boulder field. The landscaping, in addition to ambient wildflowers and cactus among the rocky outcrop, include elm, pine, and junipers in the front which largely obscure the frontal elevation, and a hackberry tree in the back. Shrubbery and ground cover have also been cultivated around the home.</p><br>
<p>At the main entrance are central double doors surrounded by a transom window and sidelights with doors and windows featuring leaded stained glass. Interior walls are composed of 14 inch plastered adobe. The entrance opens into a foyer effectively serving as a parlor with a fireplace in the northwest corner which shares a chimney with fireplaces in both of the northern bedrooms. The foyer has doorways leading to the northeast bedroom and the great room on the southeast side of the house and has a portal opposite the entrance leading to the dining room. The great room has a window overlooking the veranda and balcony to the east, and windows to the south with views that include the porte-cochère, stone patio, and toward the southwest of the property and beyond. The great room has additional doorways leading to the dining room and the southwest bedroom, and it has a fireplace that shares the same chimney as one in the southwest bedroom. The southwest bedroom has a south-facing window, a doorway to the kitchen, and a separate bathroom at the southwest corner of the house with closet space and windows facing south and west. The kitchen has a double doorway leading into the dining room and a door leading to the back porch on the rooms southwest corner. The kitchen has bay windows overlooking the porch, a pantry closet in the rooms southeastern corner, and features a late-19th to early 20th Century cast iron gas stove. The sink is in the northeast corner with food preparation counters extending from there around the rooms northwestern corner. The dining room, in addition to the above-mentioned portals, also has a doorway leading to the central bedroom on the houses north side and a portal into a hallway leading to a common bathroom and the northwestern bedroom. The northwest bedroom, accessed by the hallway from the interior of the house, also has a doorway leading to the back stone porch adjacent to the kitchen. This bedroom has windows facing north and west overlooking the boulder field. The northwest bedroom shares a common bathroom off the hallway that has a north-facing window. The northeast bedroom has windows facing the north and east, but is walled-off from the adjoining veranda. The flanking rooms hold 11 ft ceilings, and some of the rooms on the north side still retain their original wood beaded-ceiling planks.</p><br>
<p>On the eastern end of the houses south facing is a tall unattached porte-cochère with elaborate stone paving and a landscaped landing at ground level.On the west end of the porte-cochère, steps lead from ground level to an adjacent stone patio, while further steps ascend to the southeastern balcony and front entrance from the veranda. The porte-cochère retains original iron rings for tying carriage horses. A doorway from the stone patio leads to a basement underneath the houses great room with an adjacent basement-level workshop through an additional door underneath the southeast balcony and southern portion of the veranda.</p><br>
<p>In addition to the main house and porte-cochère, other contributing structures to the sites NRHP designation include the water-pumping and storage infrastructure on the west side of the boulder field dominating the homes northern exterior. These include an Aermotor windmill along with a stone pump house and cistern that originally served the house and gardens. A nearby large, square water storage tank constructed of stone integrates well into the adjacent boulder formation.</p><br>
<p>The propertys non-contributing features include the guest house, approximately 50 ft west of the main house. This adobe structure includes a living room with a fireplace, kitchen, a full bath, and laundry space. The exterior of the guest home holds two shaded patios. At the southwest corner of the property along the Woodward Ave. entrance and south of the guest house is a garage. A piazza constructed of native stone lies 20 ft south of the main house and is adjacent to a wooden gazebo which together are shaded by a large hackberry tree as well as other smaller trees and vines. To the northwest of the piazza/gazebo combination is a small, round playhouse constructed of stone with a wooden roof. Native stone and mortar retaining walls as well as walls and fencing enclose the property and separate different portions of the lawn and gardens within the property. A flag pole is located in the front yard of the main house while a sign, dating to the houses previous function as a museum, is also listed as a non-contributing structure although it has since been removed.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Hectorville Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge in Montgomery, Vermont. Originally located on Gibou Road off Vermont Route 118 in central Montgomery, the bridge is currently  in storage. It was built by Sheldon & Savannah Jewett, who are credited with building all of Montgomery&#39;s surviving 19th century covered bridges. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Hectorville Covered Bridge consists of two Town lattice trusses, 52.5 ft long, with a structure width of 19.5 ft and a roadway width of 16 ft (one lane). The bridge&#39;s exterior is clad in vertical board siding, and it is covered by a metal gable roof. The siding extends a short way into the portals to shelter the truss ends. The bridge decking consists of wooden planking on wooden stringers. When situated across the Trout River on Gibou Road, it at on irregularly laid stone abutments faced in concrete.</p><br>
<p>The bridges construction date is not known. It is known to have been built by the towns Jewett brothers, who are credited with building Montgomerys other surviving covered bridges. This assemblage is one of the most concentrated in Vermont all attributable to a single builder. The Jewetts used standardized dimensions for their construction (except for the bridge length), and prepared wood for the bridges at their lumberyard in Montgomerys West Hill area. The bridge was originally located in Montgomery Center, and was relocated to the Gibou Road location in the early 1900s. As of 2003, the bridge was reported to be in a local construction yard, awaiting repairs and a determination by the town of where to place it.</p><br>
